Business Studies at Malone College
Business at Malone College aims to provide a first-class education provision to all students to allow the creation of the very best businessmen and women of the next generation.
Business Studies is a wide and complex subject which allows students to develop a good understanding of Businesses in the real world. It provides students with a better understanding of business through active participation in the business environment through case studies and real-life examples of business operations.
Students are encouraged to gain practical, presentational, personal, interpersonal and communication skills prior to beginning their business journey.
Business Studies will provide learners with knowledge and understanding of how different forms of business ownership operate.
At Malone we want to give students the necessary skills to enter the real world of business and to flourish.
Business Studies offers an excellent foundation for a wide range of careers in:
Marketing
Finance & accountancy
Management
Human resource management
Professional business services
Customer service
Self-employment
Furthermore, skills developed throughout this course will compliment any chosen career.
Key Stage Four
Year 11/12 CCEA GCSE Business and Communication Systems
The CCEA GCSE Business and Communication Systems introduces students to the business world.
Practical element of the course allows students to learn about file management and applications such as;
word processing,
spreadsheets,
databases,
web design,
email and
presentation software.
The theory element of the course introduces students to learn about;
the different types of business ownership,
recruitment & selection,
training,
marketing,
the role of stakeholders and customers, and
how best to communicate a message.
Assessment is through:
one computer-based exam worth 40% of the final mark,
one written exam worth 35% and
a controlled assessment unit worth 25%.
Unit 1: Software Applications for Business – the computer exam
Unit 2: The Business Environment – handwritten exam
Unit 3: Developing Digital Solutions – controlled Assessment

Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign (Mandatory Unit) 90 GLH | A task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions. The supervised assessment period is undertaken in a single session of three hours 70 marks |
Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance (Mandatory Unit) 120 GLH | Written examination set by Pearson 2 hours 80 marks |
Unit 8: Recruitment and Selection Process (Optional Unit Choice) 60 GLH | Internal assessment BTEC Moderated |
