At Malone College we take great care of the local environment. The hard work around the College and the local neighbourhood was acknowledged when we were awarded the Education Winners at the Community Environmental Awards 2015. Our students have been helping to keep Musgrave Park and the local area clean and free from rubbish to build a better environment for Malone College and the surrounding area.
Malone College Year 10 Art students were delighted to be awarded the Carson Award for their peace sculpture. The Carson Awards are an exciting opportunity for young people to express themselves creatively under the theme ‘What Integration Means to Me’. Our students worked with local artist Brendan McKinley to create sculptures representing the students working hand in hand to build a better future at Malone College.
Malone College is one of only two secondary schools in Northern Ireland to be awarded as a Maths Mastery partner. In Maths our students are given the time to understand topics through exploration and investigation before moving on to the next. Students spend a long time deepening understanding, rather than accelerating through topics. Throughout all lessons, there is an emphasis on the use of language, concrete manipulatives and pictorial representations. Once students feel comfortable with the concepts, they will move on to the next topic.
Malone College are very proud to have been presented with the Derrytrasna Award. The Derrytrasna Pastoral Care Award is an award for school communities who show exceptional pastoral care for the emotional health and wellbeing of pupils and their families. It was great to receive recognition for the hard work and effort our staff put into the lives of our students and local communities.
